I’m sure you’ve all heard of Craigslist. I’ve used it a bit to both buy and sell. I actually most recently used it to advertise a litter of kittens that we were raising!
But, there’s something you can do with Craigslist that I really didn’t think about before. Selling or buying used building materials. When my dad asked me about using Craigslist to list an old sink and toilet set I kind of pooh-pooh’ed the idea. I really didn’t think he’d get a call. The sink is in the picture to the left– an old blueish-greenish sink that sits on 2 metals legs. It has some vintage styling to it so I could see why someone might want to salvage it. But, not necessarily through Craigslist.
Boy, was I wrong! Dad went ahead and listed it and within 3 hours it was gone! I was floored. He made sure to restrict the listing to show up in the Milwaukee area so that there wouldn’t be inquiries from too far away.
So, lesson learned. If you’re up for acquiring some salvaged building materials and architectural finds, or have some to get rid of, go straight to Craigslist. I had previously always gone to the local ReStore in Appleton for salvaged stuff, but now I’m definitely going to expand my scope to watch Craigslist.
You just might find a gem out there!
